In Search of the Perfect Christmas Tree

Andrew and I convinced our friends Jo and Eric to go cut down a Christmas tree in true Edlund fashion, by hiking into the woods and spending an hour trying to find the "perfect tree". (Although by Edlund standards, waiting two weeks before Christmas to get a Christmas tree is cutting it a little too close for comfort.) Jackson the pup, had an adventure too. As you will see he got a little bit distracted from the quest for the perfect tree.

Rocking out to Christmas music on the drive out to Mackenzie pass, helped to get us into the Christmas spirit. December in Bend has been on average 50-60 degrees, so it was easy to forget just how close to Christmas it really was. After a 35 minute ride we all climbed out of the car to look for our trees.

We had to get a $5 permit to cut down the tree in the national forest. On the permit there were many rules. Such as: The tree has to be at least 200 feet from the road; the stump left behind has to be 12" or less; another tree has to be at least 15' away from the tree that is cut down. What seemed like a daunting task, acutally turned out to be very easy. If you never been in an Oregon Forest: there are a lot of trees in Oregon.

Of course when you are hunting for a tree in the forest, it is east to go overboard, by looking for the tallest tree you can find. (Please see Eric's tree). It was quite the struggle to get both trees on the Suby.
